Children's bones and joints are different from adults – they are still growing, have growth plates, and heal differently. Paediatric orthopaedic problems require a specialist with specific knowledge and a gentle, child-friendly approach. Dr. Shahrukh Khan has undergone specialised training in paediatric orthopaedics, including the 9th Advanced Training on the Ponseti Method for clubfoot and the Paediatric Orthopaedic Workshop at IOACON 2023.

Ponseti Method for Clubfoot: Dr. Shahrukh Khan is trained in the Ponseti casting technique – the gold standard non-surgical treatment for clubfoot. Over 95% of clubfoot cases can be corrected without major surgery using this method.
Our Approach to Children's Orthopaedics
We understand that bringing a child for orthopaedic care can be stressful for the whole family. Dr. Shahrukh takes time to explain everything to parents clearly and in simple language. He uses the gentlest possible techniques and always tries non-surgical approaches first when appropriate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Most children have flat feet until age 5–6 when the arch develops naturally. Flat feet that are flexible and asymptomatic (painless) usually don't need treatment. Flat feet that are painful, rigid, or associated with tight heel cords may require orthotics or occasionally surgery. Dr. Shahrukh will assess your child and advise appropriately.
The Ponseti method involves weekly serial casting which is gentle and well-tolerated by babies. Most babies sleep through the manipulation. A minor procedure (percutaneous tenotomy) may be needed at the end, but it is a very quick procedure with local anaesthesia.
Yes, the majority of childhood fractures heal beautifully with just a plaster cast, as children's bones have excellent remodelling capacity. Surgery is reserved for certain specific fracture patterns, displaced fractures involving growth plates, and those that cannot be held in a cast.
